2013 Workshop Descriptions (presented alphabetically)

All About Rules: Crafting Poly Relationship Agreements - Presented by mir
Every relationship has agreements - whether spoken or unspoken. Thoughtful, deliberate agreements can create harmony and purpose in your poly relationships. But where do you start? This class will give you tips and tricks for creating your individualistic relationship agreements and adapting them to change within your ever evolving bonds.

Are You a Chimp or a Bonobo? - Presented by mir
Our closest genetic relatives in the animal kingdom, Chimpanzees and Bonobos have two very divergent societal structures. While evolutionary psychologists debate which one early humans most resembled, those practicing polyamory can and should examine how feelings of scarcity and abundance can impact your poly relationships. If love is infinite and only time can constrain it, what is enough time? Enough sex? Love? Money? Privacy? Unity? Is it really just a matter of perception? mir leads a discussion into what we can learn for our primate relatives and how we can use it to enhance our poly relationships.

BDSM 101 - Presented by Loki
What is BDSM and why is it so fucking fun!?!?! What is a Dominant? A submissive? What does BDSM stand for anyway? Get the basics on BDSM and kink in this lecture and discussion class with Morgan Jones.

BDSM after Sexual Abuse Presented by Kris
We are changed by sexual abuse. It can happen in childhood but even as an adult it can cause you to question your basic beliefs about sex. It can cause shame. Sometime times I go through the shame defiantly, sometimes trying to be “normal”. Neither holds the key. Slowly over the years I found a few things to help me feel better. I hope in this workshop we can find some of those things for you. If you have worked passed some of your issues great! Come and help the rest of us with the keys you have found.

Connecting With Your Partner Using Rope - Presented by DeweyX
This class will address rope as a means of communication and connection, rather than tying down furniture. We will discuss ways to touch and move your partner, building tension in a scene, and how to use the rope to "express your intent". Please bring rope if you have any. If not, some rope will be available to borrow. Rope 101 is recommended, but not required.

Flogging 101 - Presented by Loki
Flogging can be an excellent warm up or an entire scene. They are one of the most basic tools and are often the first purchase a new kinkster makes. This class is designed to teach the basics of techniques, differences in flogger materials and effects, safety tips and the power and energy exchange available to a top and bottom during a scene.

Introduction to Polyamory - Presented by Mishi K
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, polyamory is the state or practice of having more than one open romantic relationship at a time. Big subject that we are going to try to discuss in a 50 min course! It will be a faster flowing class as there is not “one way” to have a Poly relationship, thus a lot of information will be talked about. We’ll touch on what images of Poly bring up for different people, different structure possibilities of a Poly Family, some of the basic tools of what is needed to help a Poly relationship work, the possibility of and different types of “The Rules”, and some misconceptions of what Poly people do. Time permitting we'll end with an open forum at the end to help answer any questions.

Intro to Vaginal Fisting - Presented by Kris and mir
My favorite thing to do to a willing girl? Fill her up and please her. We’ll talk about the importance of lube, how slow to go, myths and more. With our lovely demo dolly willing to take one for the team I’m sure we’ll all have a good time.

Love Buttons and Manmeat: A Round Robin Reading
We just don't spend enough time reading really bad erotica. (Yes, worse than 50 Shades of Gray.) We definitely don't spend enough time reading awesomely bad erotica aloud and laughing along with friends. Until now. Join mir for a Round Robin reading of some of the worst erotica the internet has to offer. Read until you laugh and then pass it along to the next person. Come be silly and learn some new euphemisms!

Managing Jealousy- Presented by mir
Jealousy is the dirty little secret of the poly world. Do you feel it? How do you deal with it? Is it possible to overcome it? mir leads a group discussion based on the Practical Jealousy Management workshop developed by Poly Author, Franklin Veaux. We will talk about the root causes of jealousy, steps to help you eliminate it. You'll gain concrete ideas and tools to take home with you and use in your relationships in the future.

Master/slave: An Introduction - Presented by Sindarian and ciara
This presentation is geared toward those that have heard the term Master/slave but know very little about what the relationship dynamic entails. We will discuss theory including negotiations, contracts and rules. The practice of living as Master and slave; protocols, rules and day to day living. Our personal path, how we got to where we are today.

Pervertables – Hi Ho Hi Ho! Off to Rural Kink We Go - Presented by Sindarian and ciara
New to kink and short on funds or curious about bondage but don’t want to spend a fortune just to find out your partner is allergic to rope? In this presentation we show you how to make toys from items found easily at farm stores, Walmart and the dollar store. A list of resources and toy making instructions will be provided.

Playing Both Sides: An Introduction to Switching-  Presented by Kris
Switching is in the mind of the beholder. I have been holding the whip and not been the one with the power. I’ve given myself up completely and had no thoughts in my head about what was coming next. I’ve topped from the bottom when should have(and when I shouldn’t have). Switches exchange power in many ways and can have a relationship fluid enough that power flows back and forth by the moment. Or static enough that every move is planned. Want more info? We may not have it but Mark and I will do our best to explain the basic.

Poly Show & Tell: What's YOUR Poly Look Like? - Roundtable led by mir
How did you become poly? Why did you become poly? What is your poly relationship structure? What joys and struggles do you face in your daily poly life? What are you hoping to learn and experience at Labor Day Libertine? Come share your poly story with your fellow campers and find out how similar and different we all are!

Poly vs. Swinging: The Open Relationship Continuum - Presented by Nymph
Non-monogamy comes in many forms, and different communities have different paradigms for how they approach and think about relationships, including but not limited to sex. This panel will discuss different approaches to ethical non-monogamy, and give participants the opportunity to share their own experiences with different places on the spectrum.

Rope 101 - Presented by DeweyX
In this class we will cover the important basics of safety, as well as types of rope and concepts for enjoying tying with a partner, or yourself. We will cover foundation ties and proper techniques to get started, and how to use them for pleasure. Please bring rope if you have any, if not, there will be some available to borrow.

Spiritual Hedonism - Presented by Loki
How does the pursuit of ecstasy and joy mix with leading a spiritual life? You are supposed to suffer to actualize, right?

Submission 101 - Presented by Dear1
So you picked up a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey and got an excited tingle in your belly when you read about Ana. Or maybe you were the one who wanted to be tied up when you played Pirates or Cowboys & Indians as a child. But whatever your path, you've arrived at a point where you feel you would be a good submissive in a Dominant/submissive relationship and want to know more about it. Join us as we discuss various facets of what it means to be a submissive and learn how to separate the facts from the fictions.

Yoga For Chickens - Presented by Dear1
Have you ever considered learning yoga but were too chicken? Afraid you’d have to contort your body like a pretzel while standing on one leg? There is an easier way. Come learn about poses (asanas as they're known in yoga) that will help you get in touch with your body & spirit, increase your flexibility and improve your balance all while connecting with the divine energy. (some mats will be available but please bring your own if you have one)

Yoga for Rope Play - Presented by Nymph
Yoga was developed to make it comfortable for practitioners to stay still in one positions (for meditation) for a long time. Getting bound up in rope also tends to cause people to stay still in one position for a long time, making yoga a great practice to help prepare for rope play. This class will be appropriate for people at all levels, and will focus on opening the muscles of the shoulders, back and hips to make binding more comfortable.

Qadishti Workshops by Kelevhqadesh and Panthea Maenad

Just As I Am: Self Affirmation through Communal Acceptance in Sacred Touch - I am old. I am fat. I am out of shape. I am also no less deserving of being loved and wanted and touched, BUT to hear the world tell it, I'm on a lower rung of life's ladder of importance. I should be grateful for whatever crumbs of affection I receive, BUT you see, as a Dionysian, I believe in breaking through walls. I am led by the Fool, the Card of the Entered Apprentice, the Seeker at the Door of Possibilities. This mini-workshop posits a new theory of relating to one another, a more equitable and fulfilling one that destroys the ladder of hyper-competition and rebuilds the circle of equity in which all who want it are received and cherished for just who they are.

The Journey of Dionysos Chthonios: Positive Self Image and Personal Empowerment Through Explorationss in Sacred Sexuality and BDSM - Dionysos is the God of self-realization and his aspect Chthonios relates to the process through darker fantasies and fears. Not long ago, few people appreciated the profound link and amazing potential of Sacred Sexuality and BDSM, but we explore that link in a mini-workshop involving transformation of self through poetry and dance, ritual body art (painting) and the assumption of various masks and personae, and learning by letting go toward personal evolution and fulfillment in ecstasy.

The Radical Egalitarian: A Meditation and Discussion for Poly and Practitioners of Sacred Sexuality - The concept is simple. No one likes to be left out or considered second best. While we recognize the uniqueness of each person and therefore their qualitative differences in fairly inconsequential and superficial ways, we also explore the significance of being considered equal in terms of needs of and rights to affection and desire. Or more simply put, in this circle there are no highers or lowers, more important people and less important ones.

Qadeshem: Sharing the Vision, Spreading the Joy - The vision is to place practitioners and facilitators of touch, sensuality and sexuality at major events across the country and around the globe, but the first steps involve education, entry level explorations, and demonstrating the possibility of sharing joy in ways not imagined until recently. But this isn't something new. The qadeshat and qadeshem were members of an ancient priesthood sharing love and touch and sensual joy.

Introduction to Facilitating  Three Forms of Sacred Touch - Without giving too much away, this is a program about a series of rituals that allow exploration of sensual and sexual desires to unfold in a completely safe and self-empowering environment.

Sacred Touch Outer Court - Participation in this ritual requires prior attendance at the introduction class. Inspired by the Outer Court Ritual of the New Temple of Astarte by Charles Arnold the brilliant author of Ritual Body Art, this introductory level program is an actual exploration in consensual touch and pleasure. For interested explorers, we will provide a complete explanation of what we do and how we do it in advance.

2012 Workshop Descriptions

Adapting to Change in Polyamory - Presented by mir
Change is inevitable. And, as with most things, in a poly lifestyle change often comes in multiples. mir facilitates this discussion on the transitional periods that affect poly dynamics -- new relationships, endings, status changes -- and the ways to navigate them that create more joy and  growth instead of stagnation and fear. Whether you are poly or poly-curious, this class will give you solid ideas of the unique challenges faced in poly dynamics and how to handle them when they arise. Please come share your experiences and challenges as we all look together for solutions.

Bad Habits of Good Submissives: Getting Your Needs Met Within Dynamic - Presented by mir

What about when you don't tell the Top you had a bad day because you're afraid they'll balk at the extreme humiliation you crave? They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.Tension in your D/s dynamic may not be hell, but it certainly can feel like it! miranda will lead a discussion and workshop to help submissives explore their dynamics to find the common bad habits that can lead to tension, understand the motivations behind those habits and discover new ways to communicate and meet their needs.

Ritual Work in a Hedonistic Practice - Presented by Lacrimae Mundi
It is assumed that by being in attendance at this festival, participants have already acknowledged and owned their own plce in this wild world of sexual experimentation. This workshop will utilize NLP to explore more of our deeper and darker fantasies, fetishes and strange turn ons, first in a group verbal discussion and then with agreed upon boundaries we will embark on physical explorations of a chosen set of these ideas. Some potential topics may include the sadist/masochist relationship, fetishes involving suffocation, and binding, food issues, or whatever our strange and lovely imaginations create! Emphasis will be placed upon the shadow aspect with a process involving dragging our dark thoughts into the light where we will own and then integrate them into a healthier place within our consciousness. No topic wil be off limits for discussion however practical health and sanity limits will be placed on the final expressions of these topics.

Sacred and Sensual Dance - Presented by Jeana
In this workshop, we'll briefly cover the history of sacred temple dance before learning the basics of sacred and sensual movement, presented from a belly dance perspective. After gaining a basic dance vocabulary, we'll play with some improvisational exercises meant to kinesthetically express power relations, explore sensual spaces, and experiment with movement styles. We'll be approaching dance movements as a set of tools, whether you want to use them to commune with the divine, seduce your partner(s), improve your fetish modeling, wriggle in tune during ropework, or something awesome yet to be invented.

Tantric Methods for BDSM - Presented by Lacrimae Mundi
Relationships within the BDSM community can be complicated, especially since there are no role models or traditional examples for us to observe. Sometimes during the process of pursuing our plural desires, we lose our way and become lost in the crossfire of role play versus intimacy. This workshop is for those who are either in the "Lifestyle" or want to be, and who are looking for ways to strengthen intimacy, mutual respect and trust while still enjoying our delicious and sometimes joyfully bizarre relationships. Discussions will include: outside family members, their impact and awareness, mutual self- respect, and when and if to "Turn off" the roles of power, how to recover when limits or trust is broken, how to navigate the medical establishment when and if this becomes necessary.

Violet Wand 101 - Presented by Dr. Michael
This class will be a short history of the violet wand, a demonstration on my assistant tessa of some of the different attachments and their effects, and then a lot of hands on demos for any of the audience that wishes to feel what the wand feels like to them.
The demos will focus on the sensation aspects and sensual play of the wand, although it can be used at higher intensities for those of a masochistic bent.
We will also be showing off our home made and conventional items that we have bought and perverted for use with the wand, showing that while the initial expense is high, the toys to go with it can be found literally at the dollar store.
